Privacy policy

What's collected. To process an order, True Maps collects your name, shipping address, billing details, email, and order contents. Payment is handled by the store's payment provider — card details are entered with them and are not stored by True Maps. Basic technical data (such as IP address and browser type) is logged by the hosting infrastructure to keep the site secure and working.

Why it's collected. This data is used only to confirm, produce, and ship your order, to send order and delivery notifications, to handle returns or support requests, and to meet legal obligations such as tax and accounting records. There is no marketing newsletter and no promotional email.

Legal basis. Order data is processed to perform the purchase contract; invoice and accounting records are kept to comply with legal obligations; limited technical data is processed on the basis of a legitimate interest in keeping the site secure.

Who it's shared with. Personal data is shared only with the providers needed to complete an order: the e-commerce and checkout platform, the payment provider, the print and fulfillment partners who produce and pack the print, and the shipping carrier who delivers it. True Maps does not sell, rent, or trade personal data, and runs no advertising and no cross-site tracking.

International transfers. Some of these providers process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada. Those transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards — the European Commission's adequacy decisions for the United Kingdom and Canada, its Standard Contractual Clauses, and, where applicable, the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

How long it's kept. Order and invoice records are kept for as long as Portuguese tax and accounting law requires (up to 10 years for invoices). Other personal data is deleted once it's no longer needed to fulfill your order or handle a related request — or sooner on request, where no legal duty requires keeping it.

Cookies and what's kept in your browser. This site sets no cookies of its own, and none at all for advertising. It does keep three things in your browser's own storage, on your device, so that it behaves the way you left it: what's in your cart, the country and currency you're shopping in, and whether you prefer centimeters or inches. None of it is sent anywhere or read by anyone else, and clearing your browser data removes it. The checkout runs on Shopify, on their own address, and sets the cookies a payment page needs.

Analytics. Visits are counted with Umami, a privacy-focused tool that sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and builds no profile of you across sites. It records which page was opened, which site you arrived from, a coarse country and device type, and a handful of actions on the page — which map was opened, which size was chosen, when a cart or a checkout was started — never anything that identifies you personally. That data is stored in the European Union.

Where an order came from. Links we publish ourselves — in a post, a pin, an email signature — carry a short tag in their address naming the post. If you arrive by one and then put something in your cart, that tag is remembered alongside the cart and travels with your order, so we can tell which of our own posts led to a sale. It labels the post, not you: it is one word, it identifies nobody, it goes no further than the order, and it lives exactly as long as your cart does — empty the cart and it's gone with it. Nothing is kept for visitors who don't start a cart. If any of this ever changes, this page will be updated first.

Your rights. True Maps is the controller of the data described here. Under the GDPR you can ask to access it, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, or receive a copy to take elsewhere — to exercise any of these, write to hello@truemaps.co. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with Portugal's data protection authority, the CNPD.
